"The Classical Cretan Lyra on the Western European Music"

From February 16 to 25, Dom Radio will host a series of concerts by the famous cellist and composer Yiorgos Kaloudis (Greece). For many years he has been exploring the possibilities of playing the Cretan lyra, one of the most ancient musical instruments. Combining the techniques of cello playing and the features of the traditional Cretan lyra, he improved the instrument by adding a fourth string (lower cello C).

Yiorgos Kaloudis will give four concerts at Dom Radio presenting the rich possibilities of the lyra and an extensive repertoire: from Baroque music to modern compositions in which the unusual timbre of the Cretan lyra is enriched with electronics. But first, on February 16, Yiorgos Kaloudis will meet the audience and talk about the centuries-old history of the Cretan lyra, demonstrate the peculiarities of performing technique and the upgrades he did to the traditional instrument.

Lecture of the unique 17-year-research of Cellist, lyricist and composer Yiorgos Kaloudis for the Classical Cretan Lyra.

An updated traditional Cretan lyra, which he inspired and created, to interpret and record the essential work in the history of music, the Suites for Solo Cello of J.S. Bach.

The world premiere of the project was held at the Athens Concert Hall in 2017. At the same time, Yiorgos Kaloudis with his Classical Cretan Lyra lived the Ancient Theater of Aptera in Chania after 1700 years of silence, at the first concert given to the excavated and restored monument. In June of 2018, Kaloudis gave a special recital to the Necropolis of Good Stone in Ancient Eleftherna in Rethymnon.

The composer reveals the importance of the Classical Cretan lyra in the history of music, sounds and vibrations will unfold the interpretative possibilities, of the four-stringed Cretan lyra with sympathetic strings, on Western European music, from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque to and modern times.

Conférence musicale de Yiorgos Kaloudis
« La lyre crétoise et son utilisation dans la musique occidentale » 

Le violoncelliste, joueur de lyre et compositeur présentera le fruit de ses douze années de recherches sur la lyre crétoise à quatre cordes et à cordes sympathiques. Une lyre crétoise traditionnelle renouvelée et adaptée, qu’il a lui-même créée, dans le but d’interpréter et d’enregistrer les célèbres Suites pour violoncelle seul de J.-S. Bach.

La création mondiale des Suites pour violoncelle seul de J.-S. Bach réinterprétées pour lyre crétoise a eu lieu au Mégaron d’Athènes en 2017. Puis Yiorgos Kaloudis et sa lyre à quatre cordes ont redonné vie au théâtre antique d’Aptéra à la Canée. Le site crétois, retrouvé et restauré, a résonné de nouveau après 1700 ans de silence en août 2017. En 2018, Yiorgos Kaloudis donne un récital extraordinaire à la nécropole d’Orthi Petra à l’ancienne Eleutherna à Réthymnon. 

Lors de cette conférence, il exposera l’importance de la lyre crétoise dans l’histoire de la musique, sa matière sonore et ses vibrations. Il dévoilera ses possibilités d’interprétation dans la musique occidentale. Un voyage qui débutera au Moyen Age, en passant par la Renaissance et l’époque Baroque avant d’atteindre l’époque contemporaine.

Παρουσίαση της μοναδικής 12ετούς έρευνας-μελέτης του τσελίστα, λυράρη και συνθέτη Γιώργου Καλούδη για την τετράχορδη κρητική λύρα με συμπαθητικές χορδές. Μια αναπροσαρμοσμένη παραδοσιακή κρητική λύρα, την οποία ο ίδιος εμπνεύστηκε και δημιούργησε, με σκοπό την ερμηνεία και ηχογράφηση ενός από τα σημαντικότερα έργα στην ιστορία της μουσικής, τις Σουίτες για σόλο βιολοντσέλο του J.-S. Bach.

H παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα του έργου πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών το 2017.Το ίδιο χρόνο, ο Γιώργος Καλούδης με την τετράχορδη λύρα του ζωντάνεψε το Αρχαίο Θέατρο Απτέρας στα Χανιά μετά από 1700 χρόνια σιωπής, στην πρώτη συναυλία που δόθηκε στο ανασκαμμένο και αναστηλωμένο μοναδικό αυτό μνημείο. Το 2018, ο Καλούδης έδωσε ένα ξεχωριστό ρεσιτάλ, στη Νεκρόπολη της Ορθής Πέτρας στην Αρχαία Ελεύθερνα στο Ρέθυμνο.

O συνθέτης θα μιλήσει για την σημασία της κρητικής λύρας στην ιστορία της μουσικής, των ήχων και των δονήσεων, θα ξεδιπλώσει τις ερμηνευτικές δυνατότητες της τετράχορδης κρητικής λύρας με συμπαθητικές χορδές, πάνω στην Δυτική Ευρωπαϊκή μουσική, από τον Μεσαίωνα, την Αναγέννηση, το Μπαρόκ έως και την σύγχρονη εποχή.
